LYRICS
I always
thought that blue skies
brightened all the things you love
like hearts you left behind
and loves you long to see
Miles go streaking by
a blur of green and endless sky
soft like clouds you gently blind
I loved a
lifetime
held alone with you that dusk lit room
Your legs encompass my soul,
and women sang angry tunes
Time seemed to stop dead still
alone with you in a bed, on a hill
and for a moment the sky gleamed blue
But now
the blue sky shines
on an autumn day
Saluting your blessed union
and Im a hundred miles away
And as I stand here smiling
and crying as your life begins
I long to bring that summer home
With your thumb on my back
you laid the first stone.
But now the blue sky shines
on an autumn day
The righteous stand and cheer
and Im a hundred miles away
And as I stand here smiling,
and crying as your life begins
I long to bring that summer home
I remember
every smile,
each laugh the way you held my hand
The way you kissed my lips
I loved you, you never could understand
That each day I looked at you,
your eyes soft beakons piercing through
And now I watch you build your home
And now I watch you build your home
Oh, baby just run along home...

STORY
BEHIND THE SONG:
Looking
back on a beautiful, bizarre weekend in the woods. When things come so
close to happening but never the way you plan. I was still seeing the
mountains go by and smelling the mountain air, alone, at home on a hot
fall NYC night. Meanwhile, you were off somewhere with people toasting
to your future. The great thing about music...you get to get it out of
you, not hold it up inside where it turns black and dies.--CT
