LYRICS

I wanna tell you a story
about a man, a woman, you and me
I wouldn’t call it a tragedy
’cause my flaws never destroyed me
I’d call it a melodrama,
a slight kick in the face
It hangs in the air
like an uncomfortable pause in conversation

I always knew you should need me,
that should have been true
Could have heeded the fortunes
you told me,
I was stuck on what to do
I saw you as an angel
to descend and lift my ways
But you have to be some person
whose face filled my days

Fantasy always kicks me in the ass
when I want to fly
I can’t see your display of truth
& I wonder why
That glimmer in your eye,
the Atlas that supported me
Only flickered its light and was gone
you never wanted to hold the world with me

But, that’s OK, really that’s fine . . .

You gotta know that this story well it,
it don’t begin with you
You’re not the first one to tell me
that this world was too big for you
You gotta see I heard your truths
ring again and again in my ears
You know this ain’t new to me
and my shoulders are weary
from the weight of the views

Fantasy always kicks me in the ass
when I want to fly
I can’t see your display of truth
& I wonder why
That glimmer in your eye,
the Atlas that supported me
Only flickered its light and was gone

You see it doesn’t hurt so much
that you want to step your
little tired ass aside
But more that your lips want hers
while I stand here alone w/ my pride
You hold and you tease
like my feelings hold no candle to hers
And I say, that explains it,
while I hold my world . . .

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:

Classic unrequited love song. Nice little twist in so far that the person involved totally knew how I felt and rubbed my face in it anyway. All the while I had to smile like a good little girl and perform. Mothers...don't let your girls grow up to lust after musicians! Very dangerous.--CT
