LYRICS

Jane talks, you ask why
the voice don’t match the smile
Jane walks, you don’t wonder
what dreams are in her eyes
Jane laughs, you think you know
the straightness of her pride
Jane feels as she watches
and the anger inside
throws a veil o’er her wishes and dies
and it ain’t easy bein’ Jane

Jane watched as the in-crowd
lived from day to day
a slow dance, ’cross her foreground,
her background washed away
Jane moved like a shadow
too far to find her way
Jane thinks as she watches,
that could have been me...
should have...might have...maybe
and it ain’t easy bein’ Jane

She never thinks about the voices around
Buries her head in her princes and crowns
In a castles while screaming her name
The voice she hears inside
sings alone, dictated pride,
and it tells her who to be,
it tells her what to see
And I don’t really think that
she ever knew what to be.

Jane lurks in the darkness
so no one sees her pain
Jane hides ’neath the masks
that never match the name
Jane loves with a blindness
that contradicts the truth
Jane never feels
Jane never lies
Jane cannot see
Jane's always high
Jane feels the love
Jane feels the lies
Jane cannot see
Jane's always hidin'

And it ain’t easy bein’ Jane
And it ain’t easy bein’ Jane
And it ain’t easy bein’ Jane
And it ain’t easy bein’...me

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:

I've always been the girl who seemed like she could handle everything. And sometimes I can't. No one can all the time. But when you're this type of person, people often tend to say things to you that they probably wouldn't say to more "delicate" people.

This is about living in that bubble of preceived strength, and looking out at everyone looking in.
